ADVICE AND INFORMATION
Telephone for advice on equipment for independent living, information on other community and voluntary services in the Swindon area, and details of where to buy or acquire equipment.
Amongst the more Frequently asked questions are:

• Where can I get equipment to help with having a bath and am I entitled to help from anywhere?
• I have suffered a stroke and would like to join a club with other stroke patients, is there one locally?
• My mother is coming to live with us and she will need equipment to be independent, where do I go for help?

We can answer these questions for you and signpost you to the relevant service.

ASSESSMENT AND EQUIPMENT VIEWING
If you need more than telephone advice you need make an appointment to have an assessment with an Occupational Therapist to ascertain which type of equipment is suitable for your needs. This involves a chat about your difficulties and medical condition and then you may try equipment in an appropriate setting.
For example:

• You can try a bath seat in a bath.
• Try food preparation gadgets in the kitchen.
• Rise and recline armchair in the seating area.
• Have a chance to drive a wheelchair and scoota.
• Have a trial on a stair lift
• See and try equipment to assist getting in and out of bed and chair and on and off the toilet.
• collect leaflets, pricelists and details of local stockists where you can purchase the items you have tried.

DROP IN SESSIONS AND RECEPTION SERVICES
You may drop in to pick up leaflets and make general enquiries, however, it is advisable to ring before you visit as reception is only staffed part-time.

For clients who feel they don't need or want an assessment but would like a chat with the Occupational Therapist, we have set aside several times each week to accommodate this. Please ring for details.
